A suspected lunatic at Budo Alaka village in Kisi, Oyo State was alleged to have set a house containing seven family members on fire on Sunday, killing five while two survivors of the attack were said to be receiving treatment at Muslim Hospital, Kisi.
An eyewitness said the suspect, identified as Monday Daniel, carried out the attack while the family were sleeping in the apartment. The survivors were identified as a 24-year-old man, Samuel Ode, and 21-year-old Mariam Ode.
The eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said the said lunatic had approached the family a day earlier and demanded money to travel to an undisclosed location destination but a member of the family, who was approached, refused the to give the money.
The suspect was said to be angered by the refusal of the member of the family to give him money.
He was alleged to have come back to the house early on Sunday morning and set it ablaze through the roof.
The dead are three-year-old Blessing Ode, eight-month-old Friday Ode, 10-year-old Mummy Ogbada, six-year-old Daddy Ogbada and 46-year-old Ogunma Ogbada.
The witness said the suspect escaped from the scene of the incident but was later arrested by the Oyo State Police Command.
Police Public Relations, Oyo State Command, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the command in Iyaganku, Ibadan for further investigation.
